Leadership Acadamy
What it is
-
The Nuneaton Olympic Gymnastics Club (NOGC) Leadership Academy is a new initiative to support the next generation of sports leaders.
-
It is a British Gymnastic programme aimed at young people (11 years plus), interested in developing skills in both the sport (coaching/judging) and running a sports club (club administrators, events managers, fund raising etc.).
Why we have introduced it
-
As a Club we want to support our young leaders to enable them to gain skills and experience across a range of areas of interest to them. We believe this will not only benefit the Club but more importantly it will help them develop their confidence and achieve their future ambitions within the sport or wider.
Details of the programme
-
We have 18 junior coaches, who have formed our first cohort of Gymnastic Leaders.
-
Each leader has received a handbook with all the information and steps that will be needed to complete the programme, which is structured in a similar way to the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
-
Our Academy Captain Laura Flavell will be supporting each Leader to achieve whatever level of the programme they aspire to, at a pace which suits them.
-
Every leader can voice any ideas or concerns to their captain, even if it’s just help filling in the handbook
-
Academy members follow the MY Leadership Academy Programme
First task
-
To find ways to raise money which can be used to fund Leadership Academy activities. All money raised will be invested in the programme.
-
Junior Leaders will be able to raise funds through different events e.g. tombolla/stall/second hand leotard sale at the club competition or organising a gym sleep over.
-
The leaders will be in charge of organising events from start to finish with guidance from the captain and coaching team.
-
Not only will this be signed off in the handbook, but it will raise money to help put the leaders on different courses e.g Introduction to Gymnastics Judging or a First Aid Course.
The way forward
-
We will be holding Academy Meetings with the group on a regular basis to enable information to be discussed between both leaders and captains
